Thanks to Debbie for this Frugal Baby Tip!
I just started making fleece covers and I was on the Sew Diapers List and everyone recommended Calgary fleece from Wal-Mart. I have heard that Alpine Fleece is okay too.
Anyway, I've made four so far - the first one was crooked, I put too much elastic in one leg than the other, but it still works so I'm using it. I made them like I make my fitted diapers. You can see samples of fleece covers on Cyndigran's site and Debi Elrod's site.
Briefly, you can trace a diaper you like onto newspaper (fold the newspaper in half so the sides are even). Just make the cover about 1/2 inch bigger all the way around than the diaper you're tracing. Then you sew elastic onto the back and legs using a zigzag stitch, stretching the elastic as you sew, sew the right sides together, leaving about 5 inches to turn the cover.
Then you turn the cover right side out, topstich where the opening was and all the way around the cover and that's about it. I've done it another way too, but I don't want to take up too much space here.
You can also make a 1 layer fleece cover for daytime use. My diaper liners are about 4-5 in. wide and 10-12 inches long.
