Diapering_: Don't use diapers
Rate this post:Thanks to Linda for this Frugal Baby Tip!
A friend of mine who lives in China recently came back to the States for a visit. We were having dinner, and somehow we got on the subject of diapers. She told me that in China, they don't even use diapers! There are no little Chinese bums running around in Chinese prefolds, believe it or not.
Here's what they do: from birth, children are taken to the bathroom about every 15 minutes. As they relieve themselves, the caretaker whistles or hums or something like that, so that over time the child is "conditioned" to use the bathroom when he/she hears that sound.
Usually by the age of 1, a child can tell his/her parents that he has to go. And usually, when he has to go, he just goes where he is. China is full of toddlers wearing pants with a split in the crotch that allows them to just squat and relieve themselves where they are. So you'll be walking along the street in China, and a little toddler will just pull over to the side of the street and go right there! It doesn't sound very pleasant, walking around with toddlers pooping everywhere, but at least they aren't using disposables! (With a population of more than a billion, can you imagine how many disposable diapers that would be?!?)
I just thought it quite ironic that in the land that makes "Chinese
prefolds," they don't even use diapers!
