This may sound strange, but if you run the pin through your hair it sharpens it. Hold the pin like you normally would and start at the top of your hair at the back or side of your head and just run the pin down it as if you were brushing your hair.

BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO STICK YOURSELF!!

This really does work pretty good. I've done this with sewing needles that seem dull and for some reason they sharpen up by doing this! I got this tip from my grandman years ago.
