It's not hard at all to make your own diapers. I've just made a bunch for my son who was born 6 weeks early on Dec 31. I used a pattern (which is unfortuneately out of print), and bought some diaper flannel from my local fabric store, also used was soft swimwear elastic on the legs. As
my boy is a preemie and only 3 lbs 8 oz right now, he'll take a bit to grow into the diapers but then again he'll be awhile in coming home from the intesive care nursery as well.

Anyway, if you can do basic sewing (straight stich and zigzag) like me you'll have no problem. I'm fairly sure if you go to your local fabric store and look at their pattern selection, you'll be able to find a good diaper pattern - I've been told that they are out there tho' I had mine given to me by my mother in law. I'm also going to be using washcloths (bought in bulk) cut to size (or maybe folded) as liners. I use terry (lined with layers of linen) for my menstrual pads and it's really comfy, so why not for the baby too! I like the flannel and terry cloth I've found, but there are other fabrics that can be used. I personally won't use anything synthetic as I'm allergic so baby is likely to be as well. Cotton fabrics are good (as long as you can figure out how absorbent they are!) and others on the list should be able to tell you which ones as my mind is
a bit blank at the moment.

It's really not a hard project, just takes time to sit down and make them. If you can buy your fabric and thread etc. on sale, you'll save a grand lot of cash. I got all of my stuff that way and when my bank statements come in they'll prove to me that this way was much cheaper than buying premade diapers or going with a diaper service. I'm the type of person who likes to
do things as naturally and cheaply as possible since I live on a really tight budget, so this was the way to go for me. When my son comes home and starts to wear these diapers I'll be trying out that laundry soap recipie that came across the list a bit ago as well. I do really like the diapers I've done and it's likely they'll last long enough to be used again if I have another baby.
