Believe it or not, a disposable diaper or sanitary pad can be used to catch blood from a severe wound and then taken to the hospital ER with the victim as a measurement device. The severity of the blood loss can be measured by weighing the disposable because they can actually find out from the manufacturer how much the product weighs and subtract that from the weight of the soaked disposable.
I figure you can just weigh a towel and keep it for such emergencies, though... just a thought.
