Thanks to Kimberly for this Frugal Baby Tip!

My friend and I are in the process of sewing cloth wipes, and this is what we are doing.

We bought flannel on sale at the cloth store for $2.79 (US) per yard. It's about the same thickness as a receiving blanket (we're making those too). We thought the terry cloth they had for sale at the cloth store was very rough so we found some soft bath towels at Kmart (Martha Stewart brand) that didn't have those decorative bands on them. Per square yard these towels (on sale) cost the same as the cheap terry at the cloth store. But they are much softer!

We cut everything into 9" X 9" squares. Our wipes are flannel on one side, terry on the other. I'm using her serger to bind the edges (I had never sewn before in my life) and she is turning the wipes right side out and is sewing a regular seam around them 1/4" from the edge. This is probably a lot more than is necessary; we were just going to serge them together but she thought the wipes looked better this way.

These are so nice that I may keep a few out for use as wash cloths.
