Thanks to Janeen White for this Frugal Baby Tip!
We actually used cloth wipes LONG before cloth diapers. My older sister gave me the idea as that was all she used on her daycare kids. She just used plain white wash cloths. She told me that you don't use anywhere near as cloth wipes as you do disposible. For a really bad diaper, maybe two.
You'll end up using five or more disposible wipes. That sold me. It was hardly any extra work at all. When Natalie was a baby, before each diaper change, we'd wet a washcloth (because back then she usually had a poopy diaper with each changing) and change her. When we got a bunch that needed to be washed (we had like 36 total buying 18 pack from Wal-Mart), my husband would put Shout on all of them and wash them. And we usually washed them with the regular laundry.
Now, I just wash them with the diapers. I'm starting to convert to the nicer cloth wipes as a friend of mine gave me a bunch and Natalie doesn't have anywhere near the number of dirty diapers as she used to and I use the wash cloths for everything else: spit-ups, washing face after eating solids, etc. Anyway, hope this helps!
